What Hyacinth Bucket Thinks of Online Dating After 60

By our Social Correspondent, Special to The Frisky Gazette

If ever there were a woman destined to bring decorum to the digital world of senior socialising, it is Mrs. Hyacinth Bucket — pronounced Bouquet, of course. When introduced to Frisky Silvers Social Romance, the new online platform where the over-60s connect for companionship, flirtation, and the occasional cheeky chat, she was, at first, aghast.

“A social romance platform? Good heavens, Richard, we’re not that sort of people!”

Still, curiosity — and the faint aroma of status — soon overcame propriety. Hyacinth, clutching her teacup and her self-importance in equal measure, created a discreet account under the name Hyacinth de la Bouquette. Her profile photograph, naturally, featured her Royal Doulton china with hand-painted periwinkles in the background — a subtle signal to the discerning gentleman of culture.

Within moments, she was appalled by the casual attire of her prospective suitors.
“Richard, this one’s wearing jeans! And that one appears to be in his garden shed! I simply cannot have my profile associated with such commonness.”

And yet, behind the stiff moral outrage, one could sense the tiniest flicker of excitement. A retired colonel with an immaculately waxed moustache caught her eye. “Now he looks like the sort of man who’d appreciate a properly laid table,” she murmured, cheeks ever so slightly pink.

Despite the faintly scandalous name, Hyacinth began to warm to Frisky Silvers. She declared it “a commendable attempt at preserving romance and refinement in an age of emoji courtship,” before suggesting they add an exclusive members’ circle — “The Bouquet Society for Superior Seniors.”

By the end of the week, she’d organised her first virtual candlelight supper, invited three retired civil servants, and told poor Richard to iron the linen for her Zoom background.

So while Hyacinth Bucket would never admit to “online dating,” she would certainly host Frisky Silvers Social Gatherings — invitation only, naturally. And if you happen to receive one, do remember: dress smartly, bring a bottle of port, and for heaven’s sake — pronounce it Bouquet.
